Kidnapping for a Cause
The Job
Anti tech cult We Who Reject wants the gun manufacturer Service Ready's weapons lab infiltrated, and the head of their R&D department kidnapped to help them build an EMP large enough to black out the city.
Reward: 4,000 Credits, only if the researcher is brought to them alive.
What The Fixer Knows
- The address of the lab in the industrial district.
- The target is Dr. Kristel Domingo, the head of the lab.
- Domingo is a workaholic and hasn't left the lab in weeks.
- The building has 24-hour security, and no part is open to the public.
- Each morning, they get a delivery of supplies and materials through a bay door.
- Occasionally, Service Ready sends an executive or inspector to check up on the place or meet with the staff.
The lab
2 floors. White squares of reinforced concrete on the ground level. windows on the second reveal salarymen tapping away at computers.
- Walls can’t be broken by bullets, but explosive charges will do.
- Windows are reinforced but not bulletproof. shattering them sets off the building’s alarm. No windows on the first floor.
Alarms
- Security Alarm: Activates all turrets in the building, releases 2 vindicator droids from the security room. All security guards remaining in the building approach the source of the alarm trigger.
- Fire Alarm: Alerts everyone in the building, if the cause of the alarm can’t be determined quickly, activates sprinklers and calls 5-0, 1d6 officers arrive in 2d10 minutes, along with a firetruck.
Entrances
- Main Entrance: Keycard lock, frame doubles as a metal detector that beeps and alerts the security desk and its turret.
- Back Entrance: Keycard lock, includes a metal detector, but it's malfunctioning.
- Bay Door: Open from 7:00AM-12:00PM, when the warehouse delivers supplies and materials. Pin code interface opens it from the outside.
- Fire Exit: Top floor, mechanical lock, clearly labeled “fire exit, do not enter”. Sets off fire alarm if opened.
Layout

1. Security Desk
Navy epoxy flooring. Black security desk topped with a computer monitor between cluttered snack wrappers. Whirring turret hanging from the ceiling.
- Main Entrance Has a metal detector installed that beeps alerts front desk, and triggers turret below when tripped.
- Shotgun Turret (12 HP, -d4 armor, d8 shells)**. When activated, takes one round to loudly spin up before blasting anyone not in the employee database.
- Security Desk Always manned by a single Security Guard (6 HP, 8 Morale, -d2 armor, d6 pistol). If attacked or threatened, they activate the security alarm on their first turn.
- Computer Contains a list of employees, as well as scheduled visits from non-employees.
- roll 1d4 to determine if a guest is expected that day
- 1: No guest
- 2: George Marz, Lab quality inspector
- 3: Dev Chand, plumber
- 4: Loretta Fontana, Service Ready Sales VP

2. Security Room
Wall full of camera feeds. Box of stale donut crumbs. Rack of shotguns, Plastic pods holding combat droids.
- 3 Security Guards Watching cameras and responding to alarms. Lackadaisical. (8 HP, 8 Morale, -d2 armor, d8 Shotgun).
- Camera feeds Show an incomplete view of rooms 2, 3, and 4. Can flip to show rooms 7, 8 and using a password locked computer (DR 14 knowledge to bypass).
- 2 Vindicator Droids Sitting in plastic containment pods. Released if the security arm is raised, programmed to kill non-employees at any cost, and not to care about collateral damage. (18 HP, -d6 armor, d8a assault rifle, d6 grenade launcher hits up to d3 targets.)
3. Firing Range
Burning smell. Stacks of paper targets. Pin-locked crates. Side by side firing stations. Padded, soundproof walls.
- 50% chance 3 Scientists are here testing the smart rifle from Crate 2. (HP 3, Morale 6, No armor, pistol d6)
- Crates: Pin codes for the locks are known by the engineers. They can also be opened remotely from computers in Engineering. Test Knowledge DR 12 to bypass, failure alerts the engineering room.
- First crate: 2 unstable nanotrig mags (1 in 6 chance to explode in a puff of smoke on the first shot each combat, inflicting its effect on the user). Targets test Presence DR14 or temporarily trigger a random Nano infestation.
- Second Crate: An experimental Smart rifle (d8). When connected to a SmartJack, it performs rapid calculations to improve accuracy. Aim assist can be set from 0-3. Reduces attack test DRs by it’s aim assist setting, but also deals that much damage to the user every shot, as the Smart link overheats.
- Third Crate: Prototype Glue Bomb: Coats a room in adhesive. Anyone in the room must spend 2 turns to unstick themselves or test Strength DR 14.
4. Engineering
Black countertop. Racks of firearm parts and disassembled bullets. Filing cabinets full of blueprints. 3d printer attached to a computer.
- Gun Parts Can be crafted into a functional gun. Test Knowledge and compare the result to the outcomes below.
- 0-11: You fail to make a weapon and the supplies are ruined
- 12-13: You can make a pistol
- 14-15: You can make 2 SMGs
- 16-19: You can make an assault rifle or a shotgun
- 20+ You can make a sniper rifle
- 3d printer Has a magazine of 3d printed bullets in the tray.
- Computer Unlocks containers in the firing range for 1 minute before reengaging the lock.
- filing cabinets include plans for building experimental weapons, worth 1500 dosh if sold to a competitor.
- 1d4 + 1 engineers (6 HP, 6 morale, no armor, d8 experimental pistols, 25% chance of misfire).
- Engineers prefer to run than fight but will defend themselves.
